The Downfall of Hollywood?

Since the birth of Hollywood in 1895, Hollywood has endured changes for better and for worst. For the most part then have progressed at a steady and constant rate and have adapted accordingly to peoples preferences. Hollywood has given people what they wanted; everything from High Definition to the 3D home movies. But given today's day and age of technology, will Hollywood be able to keep this up and stay alive. Today the norm is to simply download a movie online or rent it easily from online rental places such as Netflix. Personally, I feel like Hollywood is being brought down by the internet.


Some may argue that the internet helps promote the Hollywood and the movie busy; while I would agree with that statement there is a positive and negative to every scenario. The internet allows for people to watch movies for free, or with Netflix as a very small fee. Before the internet people would have to buy movies and therefore the producers and movie companies would get compensated for their work. Since people can watch them for free online, they have no reason to go purchase them from the store. Therefore not as many copies get sold and essentially Hollywood does not get paid as much as it potentially could. This goes for movie theaters too. People can even watch movies that are currently in theaters; therefor people do not spend as much money there either, which dampers the movie companies earnings. This past summer, in America, the movie attendance was tho lowest it has been in the last 15 years. To sum it all up I believe the internet is bringing down Hollywood from a money standpoint. There is going to come a point were Hollywood simply runs out of money. I certainly cannot see it being within the near future, but somewhere down the road that is what is going to happen.
